Scallops

As with all Superior Foods suppliers, we source our scallops from partners that have the same high standards that we do. Our premium scallops are natural, fresh (never frozen) and unadulterated. The result is the most consistent, highest quality, and best tasting scallops possible.

Preparing Scallops

1. Cleaning and Preparing Scallops

If You Have Fresh Scallops:

  1. Rinse: Rinse scallops under cold water to remove any sand or grit.
  2. Remove the Muscle (if necessary): Some scallops have a tough, rectangular muscle on the side (the “foot” or “side muscle”). Gently peel this off if it’s still attached.

If You Have Frozen Scallops:

  1. Thaw: Thaw scallops in the refrigerator for several hours or overnight. For a quicker method, place them in a sealed plastic bag and submerge in cold water for about 1 hour.
  2. Pat Dry: Once thawed, pat scallops dry with paper towels. Drying helps achieve a good sear.

2. Cooking Methods

Searing:

  1. Heat a Pan: Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Add a small amount of oil (like olive oil or butter) to the pan.
  2. Cook Scallops:
    • Add Scallops: Place scallops in the hot pan in a single layer. Avoid overcrowding.
    • Sear Time: Cook for about 2-3 minutes per side, or until the scallops develop a golden-brown crust and are opaque in the center.
  3. Season: Season with salt and pepper during cooking or just before serving.

Baking:

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Prepare Scallops: Place scallops in a baking dish. Drizzle with oil or melted butter and season as desired.
  3. Bake: Bake for about 10-12 minutes, or until scallops are opaque and firm.

Grilling:

  1. Preheat Grill: Heat your grill to medium-high.
  2. Prepare Scallops: Toss scallops with oil and seasonings. Thread them onto skewers if desired.
  3. Grill: Grill for 2-3 minutes per side, or until they are opaque and slightly charred.

Eating Scallops

Plating and Serving:

  1. Serve Hot: Serve scallops immediately after cooking for the best texture and flavor.
  2. Accompaniments: Scallops pair well with lemon wedges, garlic butter, or a fresh herb sauce. They can also be served with a side of vegetables, risotto, or a light salad.

Optional Enhancements:

  • Sauces: A drizzle of balsamic reduction, a sprinkle of fresh herbs, or a light cream sauce can enhance the flavor of scallops.
  • Garnishes: Garnish with a little chopped parsley or a squeeze of lemon juice for added freshness.

Enjoy:

  • Taste and Texture: Relish the sweet, tender flavor of the scallops. They should have a slight crisp on the outside and a tender, juicy center.

Feel free to adjust the seasonings and cooking times to your preference.
