King Crab

King Crab is renowned worldwide for it’s larger than life size, sweet taste, and abundance of nutritional benefits. Superior Foods partners with the premium processors of King Crab and are able to provide consumers the best variety of options possible including legs, legs & claws, clusters, and portions.

Preparing King Crab

  1. Thawing: If your king crab is frozen, thaw it in the refrigerator for 8-12 hours. For a quicker method, place it in a sealed plastic bag and submerge it in cold water for 1-2 hours.
  2. Boiling:
    • Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add salt (about 1/4 cup per gallon of water) and any optional seasonings like bay leaves or Old Bay seasoning.
    • Add the crab legs. Cook for 6-8 minutes if thawed, or 10-12 minutes if frozen. They’re done when they turn a vibrant red and are heated through.
  3. Steaming:
    • Prepare a steamer with a rack or colander over boiling water.
    • Place the crab legs in the steamer, cover, and steam for 6-8 minutes if thawed, or 10-12 minutes if frozen.
  4. Grilling (optional for a smoky flavor):
    • Preheat your grill to medium-high.
    • Brush the crab legs with olive oil and season as desired.
    • Grill for 4-5 minutes per side, or until heated through and slightly charred.

Eating King Crab

  1. Crack the Shell:
    • Use a crab cracker or mallet to gently crack the shell along the segments. Be careful not to crush the meat.
    • Alternatively, use seafood shears for more precision.
  2. Extract the Meat:
    • Pull the meat out with your fingers or a seafood fork. King crab has large, sweet, and tender chunks of meat.
  3. Serve:
    • Serve with melted butter, lemon wedges, and dipping sauces like garlic butter or cocktail sauce.
  4. Enjoy:
    • Relish the sweet, succulent meat. It pairs well with a simple side salad, or steamed vegetables.

Feel free to adjust the seasonings and cooking times to your preference.
