Seafood Boil

A seafood boil is a fun, crowd-pleasing meal that brings together fresh seafood, smoked sausage, corn on the cob, potatoes, and bold seasonings in one flavorful pot. Perfect for backyard gatherings, family dinners, or special occasions, it’s a customizable feast that’s easy to scale for any group. Use the recipe and guidelines below as a starting point, then mix and match your favorite seafood, vegetables, and seasonings to make it your own.

What You’ll Need

  • Large pot/burner
  • Water (really don’t NEED stock since you’re basically making your own little broth)
  •  Seafood boil seasonings and aromatics (Old Bay, Cajun seasoning, bay leaves, herbs, spices etc.)
  •  Lemons (halved)
  •  Butter
  •  Garlic
  •  Onion
  •  Celery

Common Ingredients

  • Potatoes
  •  Corn on the cob (halved)
  •  Sausage
  •  Shrimp
  •  Crab legs, clams, mussels, or lobster

Simple Cooking Order

  1. Build the Broth
Fill a large pot with water. Add seasonings, halved lemons, garlic, onion, celery, and salt. Bring to a boil.
  2. Cook the Longest Items First
Add potatoes and cook about 10–15 minutes.
  3. Add the Next Ingredients
Add sausage and corn. Cook another 5–7 minutes.
  4. Add Seafood Last
Add shrimp and any delicate seafood.
    • Shrimp: 2–4 minutes
    • Crab legs: 4–6 minutes
    • Clams/mussels: cook until opened
  5. Finish It Off
Drain everything. Toss with melted butter, extra seasoning, lemon juice, and fresh herbs if desired.
  6. Serve
Spread it out on a tray or parchment-lined table and eat family-style.

Feel free to adjust the seasonings and cooking times to your preference.
