Q & A WITH JAKE KABERLE FROM BURRITT’S FRESH MARKET

What sets Burritt’s apart from your competition in Traverse City and the surrounding area? Our customer service has set us apart since the begining and it is our highest priority.

Explain how Burritt’s relationship has grown through the years with Superior Foods and what makes that partnership work well for your business? Burritt’s and Superior have worked together for over 30 years. As each business grew over the years, it became evident to both that we were founded on the same principles of providing customers with top quality products and excellent customer service. We pride ourselves on the quality products that Superior provides us.

Talk about the community outreach of Burritt’s and why that it is important to your business. Burritt’s has been a leader in giving back to the community. Since our beginning it has been important to us to support local 4-H programs. We also provide assistance to all of our local schools, especially through helping teacher led programs. In addition, since last spring we have partnered with Superior Foods, Red Ginger fine dining, and Food Rescue of NW Michigan to provide food to those in need through the Protein For The People program.

What is new for Burritt’s in 2021 that you’re excited about? Over the past year, Covid forced some changes that have helped us define a new chapter for Burritt’s in customer/staff safety that have brought a new found comfort in where people source their food. Now that we have successfullly navigated a year unlike any other, we are continuing to grow and expand our offerings this year, striving to be the epicenter of culinary adventures for the home chef.


Burritt’s Fresh Markets was founded in 1987 by Ken and Kurt Burritt as a small meat shop in Traverse City. Over the course of 30 years the business has grown to become the largest Specialty Market in Northern Michigan. Featuring Hand Cut Angus Beef, Fresh Fish delivered daily, local and organic produce, specialty and imported groceries, and the largest and most comprehensive wine shop in the North.
